Understanding the Annual Health Check for Women

We at ObGyn Matters feel it is of vital importance to have regular wellbeing checkups.

The aim of our consultation is to address any current health issues you may have, and to enable detection and early prevention or treatment of health concerns. We have a strong emphasis on maintaining overall well-being.

Overview of Consultation Process

We really enjoy seeing old faces, and meeting new ones, and one of our favourite parts to the care we provide is the continuity we see in our annual health checks.

All our consultations are with experienced Consultant Gynaecologists.

We start off with a detailed review of your Obstetric, Gynaecological and Medical History.

Obstetric, Gynaecological and Medical History

This enables us to tailor our checkup suitably, It helps us pinpoint any issues with your health, and allows us to establish a holistic view.

It’s an open conversation for us to have to begin to understand any issues you have, and for us to get to know each other and establish a strong doctor-patient relationship.

If you have anything in particularly that you want to investigate, or any specific concerns, please let us know so we can tailor your check up appropriately.

Depending on the reason for your check-up, your consultant is likely to offer a pelvic examination and a Transvaginal Ultrasound Scan.

We start off with a detailed review of your Obstetric, Gynaecological and Medical History.

Pelvic Examination

A pelvic examination by an experienced gynaecologist should not be a daunting aspect of the appointment.

We will ensure that we approach the examination with the utmost professionalism, and will ensure that you are treated with dignity and respect. A chaperone will be present throughout the examination.

It will most likely involve examination using a speculum (a small device that goes into the vagina and opens up gently) and an examination with two fingers to feel for any abnormalities.

At this point, should you be due, or should you wish to have one for any other reason, we can provide a cervical smear (PAP test). Should this show any abnormality, we have an expert Colposcopy Consultant who will follow up and provide the next steps in your care.

It may be that you would like to discuss options for Family Planning Contraception or Sexual Health screening, or you may have a desire to have a Fertility Check.

Lastly, we may discuss the Menopause with you, and we will be happy to help tailor your treatment, individualised to your symptoms and lifestyle.

At the end of your consultation, we will provide you with a detailed written report of the consultation which can be copied to your GP, and we will write to you to explain any results.

Following your consultation, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need to clarify anything, or if you would like to see us again.
