Dr Marina Fernando

Dr Marina Fernando, MRCOG, qualified from Barts and London medical school in 2005 and trained in North East Central London to become a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Homerton University Hospital.  She is the Outpatient Hysteroscopy Lead and Quality Improvement Safety Lead at Homerton Hospital.  She holds the Regional Lead position in London as the Quality Improvement lead at UCLPartners ( Academic Health Science Network) and has successfully lead improvement programmes in maternity such as PReCePT (Prevention of Cerebral Palsy in Preterm babies) and BSOTS ( Birmingham Symptom specific Obstetrics Triage System) in London and Essex.   She specialises in high risk obstetrics, Acute gynaecology, Early Pregnancy, Colposcopy and Outpatient Hysteroscopy.

Dr Fernando is dedicated to provide a personalised and safe obstetric care for mothers and keen to individualise each mother’s experience. Having worked in London throughout her career she is confident in caring for women from diverse ethnic backgrounds and understands  the cultural needs and maternal choices.  She has successfully set up birth reflection clinic at Homerton and acknowledges the importance of birth experience of each mother.  Previously as the Postnatal Lead at Homerton Hospital she has worked closely with the department and new mothers to improve the postnatal care and set up services to offer postnatal contraception ( Implants, Oral contraceptives and Intrauterine coils during Caesarean section or post vaginal delivery) as part of their routine postnatal care.

As the Ambulatory Gynaecology Lead Miss Fernando regularly engages with patients and values their experience in outpatient services.  She specialises in women with menstrual disorders, postmenopausal complications and outpatient gynaecological procedures such as outpatient hysteroscopy, contraception and colposcopy.

Dr Fernando is involved in undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and regularly showcases work around obstetrics and gynaecology in national and international platforms.
